In conversation with Tosca Colangeli, General Manager for Solutions at Microsoft UK

Welcome to the Arreoblue Data Blog, where we explore the world of data, AI, and transformative technology. Today, we’re honoured to be joined by Tosca Colangeli, the General Manager for Solutions at Microsoft UK. With an impressive career spanning nearly 36 years—including leadership roles at IBM and Kindred—Tosca brings a wealth of insight into how enterprises can navigate the evolving data and AI landscape.

AI at Scale: Navigating Rapid Change in Data and AI

The AI revolution isn’t just coming—it’s here. Tosca frames the moment with some jaw-dropping numbers: the UK AI market is currently valued at £14 billion, with projections soaring to £650 billion by 2030. AI and cloud technologies will add £550 billion to the UK’s GDP by 2035. If you’re not paying attention, now’s the time.

But it’s not just about growth—it’s about pace. “We’re seeing compute power double every four to six months,” Tosca explains, “leaving Moore’s Law in the dust.” This acceleration fuels AI’s meteoric rise, enabling machines to mimic human creativity, language, and problem-solving in ways we’ve never seen before.

Tosca highlights two significant shifts: natural user interfaces and advanced reasoning capabilities. Generative AI isn’t just about clever chatbots—it’s about multi-modal interactions (voice, text, images) and decision-making engines that help businesses automate and optimise at scale. Microsoft’s Copilot is a prime example, evolving into an intelligent interface that leverages a “constellation of agents” to handle complex workflows, essentially acting as an extra team member.

Why Boutique Partners Thrive in a Changing Market

Microsoft has always been a partner-driven organisation, but the role of boutique consultancies has never been more critical. In an era defined by agility and rapid change, smaller, specialised firms can respond faster and innovate at pace.

“Tapping into agile partners like Arreoblue means we can meet customers where they are,” Tosca shares. “Your ability to adapt and turn challenges into opportunities is invaluable, especially when helping clients navigate the complexities of AI and data transformation.”

Tosca admires Arreoblue’s “fixing at pace” approach—stepping into complex projects, addressing challenges head-on, and accelerating value delivery. This kind of agility complements Microsoft’s scale and breadth, creating a partnership that empowers clients to thrive in a fast-changing world.

Leadership in Times of Transformation

Leading a team of over 600 solution and technical specialists, Tosca understands the challenges of driving innovation at scale. One of her key principles? Adaptive leadership—balancing the need to sustain existing operations while fostering a culture of experimentation and growth.

“Innovation is a series of S-curves,” she explains. “We’re constantly moving between maturity and disruption. Success hinges on creating a culture where experimentation is encouraged, and failing fast is seen as a step toward progress.”

At Microsoft, this culture is underpinned by a growth mindset—a focus on learning, curiosity, and embracing feedback. “We want to be learn-it-alls, not know-it-alls,” Tosca notes. Her team has implemented initiatives like Learning Fridays, giving employees time to upskill, explore new technologies, and stay curious.

Generative AI, in particular, has been a great leveller. “It’s allowing early-career professionals to dive deep and become experts quickly,” Tosca highlights. “We’re all learning together, and that’s exciting.”

Solving Business Challenges with Data-Driven Solutions

For Tosca, staying grounded in business outcomes is key to success in AI and data transformation. “Technology for technology’s sake doesn’t work,” she says. “It has to start with a business problem and end with measurable value.”

This mindset drives Microsoft’s collaborative approach, primarily through its Innovation Hub, where clients and Microsoft teams co-create solutions. “We ideate, prototype, and experiment together, ensuring that we’re aligned with our client’s goals,” Tosca explains.

As AI becomes more deeply embedded in everyday operations, the focus on return on investment (ROI) has never been sharper. “Clients want to see the value—quickly. And that’s where agile partners like Arreoblue shine, helping enterprises realise value faster and more efficiently.”

Final Thoughts: Leading with Curiosity and Purpose

Reflecting on her leadership journey, Tosca offers a simple yet powerful piece of advice: stay curious. “The technology landscape is evolving so fast, but curiosity is what keeps you ahead. It’s not about having all the answers—it’s about asking the right questions.”

As the data and AI landscape continues to evolve, partnerships that blend agility, expertise, and curiosity will be key to navigating the future. At Arreoblue, we’re proud to work alongside leaders like Tosca and teams like Microsoft, helping clients turn data into real business value.
