Two weeks on from Microsoft Ignite 2025, we’re still thinking about what the latest announcements mean for our customers. The short version? Analytics and AI aren’t just converging. They are becoming inseparable.
From semantic reasoning layers to secure AI agents, Microsoft has set the tone for a new era of intelligent platforms. Here’s a closer look at the updates we think matter most.
Microsoft Fabric continues to evolve. The latest addition, Fabric IQ, introduces a semantic layer that standardises how data is understood across people, platforms and AI agents.
By modelling business concepts like “Customer” or “Order,” organisations can create a shared language that improves both human insight and AI decision-making. This semantic context helps agents reason more effectively and supports real-time decisions across apps, dashboards and automations.
Databricks announced serverless workspaces that reduce setup time to seconds. But the real impact comes from Agent Bricks, which let teams work with unstructured data using AI tools directly inside the Lakehouse.
Combined with Genie and Copilot Studio integration, users can now query data in natural language from inside Teams and receive actionable insights in context. The friction between question and answer just got a lot smaller.
Foundry IQ is Microsoft’s new managed knowledge layer for enterprise AI. It connects Microsoft 365, Fabric and Azure into a unified base for reasoning.
That means no more hand-built retrieval pipelines. Agents can access secure, contextual knowledge out of the box. Foundry IQ also supports advanced techniques like agentic retrieval and synthesis, giving developers a smarter, more scalable way to build custom AI assistants.
HorizonDB is a cloud-native database designed for performance at scale. It is PostgreSQL-compatible, optimised for AI workloads, and includes built-in vector search and semantic operators.
With native integration to Microsoft Foundry, it gives developers a future-ready engine for intelligent applications. That includes everything from recommendation systems to semantic search.
If AI agents are going to make decisions, they need the same level of oversight as any other business system. Microsoft Purview’s new Data Security Posture Management tool brings governance up to speed.
DSPM identifies and addresses data risks across autonomous agents and Copilots. It extends existing Purview capabilities to make AI adoption safer, more compliant and ultimately more useful.
