Women in Data Flagship Event 2025: A Celebration of Data, Empowerment, and Innovation

By Ivana Mazzoni

The Women in Data Flagship Event 2025, held in 27th of March, was an outstanding initiative that brought together thought leaders, industry experts, and aspiring professionals to explore the intersection of data, women’s empowerment, and career inspiration. I found that the event was not only packed with groundbreaking insights on the pivotal role of data in today’s world but also highlighted the resilience and achievements of women.

Data at the Heart of the Event

At its core, the event focused on the transformative power of data and its critical role in shaping our future. Key discussions were centred on how data and AI must prioritise inclusion, diversity, and representativeness. The topics I found most notable included:

  • Data’s role in understanding diverse consumer needs: Personalising engagement and scaling impact through data-driven insights.
  • Women’s safety through data: How innovative data solutions are being used to address women’s safety, proving the tangible impact of data on people’s lives.
  • Data governance and responsible AI: Emphasising the importance of minimising bias and ensuring fairness in AI systems.
  • The rise of deepfakes and digital twins: Discussing the risks of deepfakes and how policies need to be shaped to ensure everyone’s safety.

Inspiring Women in Data

Throughout the event, attendees were inspired by the stories of resilient women who have made significant strides in their careers. My highlights included:

  • Robin Sutara’s extraordinary career journey, with her current role as Field Chief Data Strategy Officer at Databricks, where she leads innovative, digital transformation initiatives.
  • The impactful work of Bedfordshire Police unit, who demonstrated how data is being leveraged to speed up investigations and decisions, particularly in the context of Clare’s Law, helping to protect victims potentially at risk from abusive relationships.
  • Maggie Alphonsi, the former rugby player turned author, who empowered attendees with her mantra on how to ‘get comfortable with being uncomfortable’, a powerful message about embracing challenges and pushing through adversity.

A Hands-On Experience at Vendor Stalls

In addition to the insightful talks, the Arreoblue team and I explored the vendor stalls. These stalls were not only fun but also showcased how technology is advancing in unique and unexpected ways. Some of the most fascinating offerings included:

  • Databricks’ GenAI model: This fun and interactive AI model allowed attendees to turn their images into superheroes with just a few simple prompts.
  • A 3D chocolate-making machine that could print a person’s face into a chocolate bar.
  • Computer vision and AI technology that ranked attendees’ Lego building skills, combining fun with innovation.

Conclusion

The Women in Data Flagship Event 2025 was an incredible gathering of thought leaders, innovators, and empowered individuals, all focused on how the role of women in data is crucial to shape a more inclusive and impactful future. From inspiring talks to hands-on experiences, the event provided both food for thought and a strong sense of empowerment, reminding everyone of the vital role that women play in shaping the future of data and AI.

I can’t wait for next year’s event!
